I’m afraid I’m not familiar with grocery stores there. Is there a Chinese market or Asian market nearby? These noodles are usually sold at refrigerated or freezer section at an Asian market. You can also find dried egg noodles that might be suitable for this dish as well.

Hi Maggie many thanks for this easy-to-follow recipe which I have recently used with pleasing results. I varied the recipe a little by using 1 piece of chicken thigh fillet (about 350gm) which I cut into small pieces and marinated with a light seasoning of sesame oil, Lee Kum Kee chicken marinade and Shaoxing wine for about 30 minutes. I lightly fried the chicken with ginger slices and minced garlic before adding sufficient water to make the broth. After about 10 minutes of cooking time, I dropped the wontons into the broth and when they floated to the top, it was ready to serve together with the prepared noodles. It was a delicious bowl of chicken and wonton noodle soup.

For whatever reason I forget about using dried shrimp to add flavor to broth. In the past I’ve used the shrimp shells with the boxed chicken stock/broth to add flavor. I’ll definitely get some dried shrimp to quickly help with enhancing a broth.

And thanks for showing a picture of the noodles – I always feel like I can never find the right kind of noodles for this dish.

I think I saw gluten-free wonton wrapper online before, so it’s totally possible. For the rest of the part, just replace soy sauce with tamari. I’m sure it will still be a very delicious bowl of soup 🙂

I’m sure a gluten-free version would just not be the same! Thanks for evoking such a happy memory. If I ever decide to go on a gluten binge I will definitely dig up this recipe! Yum!
